Bollocks, Tits and Arse
Huge disappointment, not very happy. I recently purchased a few bottles of what was one of my favourite New Zealand Pinots, we tried a bottle of it last night and it turned out to be crap. I am not impressed. After going through the trouble of purchasing it in the UK, and then bringing it back to Chicago with me, the least it could do would be to provide me with some pleasure. The wine in question is called Greenhough Hope Vineyard Pinot Noir 2003, and I still have 6 bottles left. I am hoping that it is suffering from 'transport shock', because this was a splendid wine when I last tasted it around a year ago. Yesterday, though, it smelled and tasted like a nasty Californian Pinot: a flabby fruit-bomb. The previously velvety texture had transformed into nothing more than a lifeless glass of what resembled Ribena. Bollocks. Maybe it was just a bad bottle, I really hope so, because I have always been a champion of the Kiwi Pinot scene, and of this winery, and I don't want to be let down.. It was a root day with ascending force yesterday too, I think I'll grab another bottle that has been in the 'cave' for a while, and try it on a fruit or flower day, maybe that'll help..

First of all an easy shot - drinking wine on a root day with ascending force - you fucking hippy what happened to you, you're definatly not getting in to the masons now - on a more serious note, to our small army of avid readers O great sage of the lakes is referring to biodynamic principles and it does indeed seem to matter - we have regularly noticed certain biodynamic wines change dramatically when its a full moon - go figure - but in this case my crack smoking hippy friend I believe more mundane explanations are afoot - most likely reason is its a dodgy bottle - this will soon be cleared up when you open another one - if that is also dodge then I would draw your attention to the widely held belief that Kiwi Pinot simply does'nt age well - they are largely made for immediate consumption - case in point Felton Road - largely held as one of the top Central Otago estates - you open the 07s or 08s and they look great warm generous aromatic lovely to drink Pinots - compare that to the 08 Burgundy tasting we went to in London where the wines are by and large chunky raw disjointed and dinstinctly hard to pin down or assess - ie: dont drink for 10 years, wines with structure designed for the long haul - compare that to the bunch of 99 Felton Pinots we've got which are dusty dried out truly funky messes, and I have'nt tried them but by all accounts the 00s and 01s are going the same way - I look forward to exploring this issue further and standing corrected on Kiwi Pinot longevity - by the way good luck with the rest of the wines Greenhough is a good name and definatly not a stupid buy even if you are turning into a flower power monkey
