1993 Haut Brion
1993 Haut Brion - Quite forward nose on opening very pleasant and attractive typical earthy coffee with touch citrus but lacking in great complexity and intensity - nicely balanced but bit thin, drying finish and acidity a bit out of wack - still lovely wine on nose but definatly lacking a bit on the palette reflecting the off vintage I guess but you wouldnt refuse a second glass.

I would stop thinking if I were you, it's not something you do well my stupid northern acquaintance. Sadly I have tasted no wine this week in an attempt to lose my giant Christmas belly that I have been wearing for the last few weeks. Actually I lie, we had an 08 Lucien Albrecht Alsace Pinot Blanc on Monday, which was excellent value for money, very fresh, excellent acidity and quite concentrated flavours of spiced apple, a very good wine for $14.
ReplyDeleteAnd on a completely different note, my Shun kitchen knives have been returned to me after I sent them away for sharpening - O my God are they effing sharp!! That is definitely almost as exciting as a 1st growth Bordeaux..
Oops, I forgot to mention something, yesterday I ordered 2 bottles of 1993 Chateau Pajzos, Tokaji Esszencia.. Luckily I don't need to pay for it just yet..
ReplyDeleteYou are going to have to do a lot more than just not drink wine for a week to get rid of that monstrosity O flabby and bloated Stateside chum of mine - think youre taking the principle of "When in Rome Rodders" a bit too far - as always jealous of your flash git knives though - I have but a bent and rusting spoon in my London hovel - as for the Tokaji be interested to hear about them as only tried Esszencia a couple of times and both quite dissapointing - intense nose but severely lacking in acidity which by all accounts is a common problem - I look forward to being corrected on this matter
ReplyDeleteI share your concern about the Esszencia, but apparently this particular wine was produced in an outstanding year, and according to various reviews (on CellarTracker and other sites) it has "piercing acidity". I have very high hopes for it indeed, though I'm not really sure how long to keep it for, or in what situation to drink it. Anyway, that's for another day..
